The thirupugal, Muthai Tharu is in praise of Lord Murugan (a Hindu deity) and confers to Pannisai. It is in the carnatic ragam Shanmugapriya and Misra Chapu talam.
Pannisai eventually evolved into Carnatic Music.
This thirupugal was recorded for a Tamil film by TM Sounderajan.
In this video, I'm using a Shruthi box for the drone that repeats three notes.
I also play the carnatic violin here. This instrument is played by resting the scroll between the heel and ankle.
