Kaatrinile Varum Geetham காற்றினிலே வரும் கீதம்



This song is golden. Originally performed by carnatic vocalist, M.S. Subbulakshmi for the Tamil motion picture, Meera in 1945, this song was written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy.

The literal translation of the song title is "music that comes with the wind". The titular character, Meera, describes the flute music with imagery such as the wilted trees come to life when the music is heard.

Come back home - 컴백홈 - 2NE1 - Kpop acoustic multilingual cover





This is a #OneSongManyLanguages video with the original song being in Korean and English. I swapped some translations of the verses for the original and added a Tamil translation of "Come back home."

The original song is an interesting mix of the EDM, reggae, trap and pop genres.

Unfortunately 2NE1 is disbanded but their music will continue to be heard by many around the world.

Thumbi vaa, Sangathil - Ilaiyarajaa - Instrumental Cover



I decided to used two audio inputs while performing the cover to give the sound of two violins.

The original songs were scored by Ilaiyaaraja.

The carnatic notes for vilin are enclosed as below. This notes are what I played. It is possible to add other  notes to make the phrases more varied and intricate to make sangathis.

This song is quite close to my heart as I first performed this song around 10 years ago in secondary school with a bunch of my friends in our music lesson.

It was written by Avril Lavigne and The Matrix (Scott Spock, Lauren Christy, and Graham Edwards), and produced by The Matrix. The song is a power pop and pop punk track, which lyrically, tells a story told from the singer's viewpoint about her rocker boyfriend and a girl he knew in high school who rejected him because he was a skateboarder and she was a snob.

Aanadha Yaazhai - ஆனந்த யாழை - Tamil and English Version #OneSongManyLanguages

This cover is dedicated to my nephew Kailash.

This song is from the film Thangameenkal and was originally performed by Sriram Parthasarathy, composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and written by lyricist Na. Muthukumar.

The orginal song is a father addressing his daughter.

I have modified this song with ada instead of adi to address my nephew.
I have also added a rough translation of the chorus.

Udi - Guzaarish - Sunidhi Chauhan - Hindi, English, Tamil Version

Happy World Music Wednesday!

This is the song Udi / Milgayi from the bollywood film Guzaarish which was originally in the Hindi language. It was originally performed by Sunidhi Chauhan and was composed by the music director Sanjay Leela Bansali and the lyrics were written by Turaz. 


I feel like the meaning of this song is quite unique. I've added some rough translations of the chorus and verse into this performance in the English and Tamil languages. I do not speak Hindi so my pronounciation and translation may contain errors. I used lyric websites to obtain English translations and rearranged the words to compile lyrics in English. I then translated the English lyrics to come up with Tamil lyrics.

Muthai Tharu - முத்தைத்தரு பத்தித் திருநகை - Thirupugal - Ragam Shanmugapriya - Talam Misra Chapu

Thirupugal is a form of devotional music that was originally composed by Arunagirinathar in the 15th Century.

The thirupugal, Muthai Tharu is in praise of Lord Murugan (a Hindu deity) and confers to Pannisai. It is in the carnatic ragam Shanmugapriya and Misra Chapu talam.

Pannisai eventually evolved into Carnatic Music.


This thirupugal was recorded for a Tamil film by TM Sounderajan.

In this video, I'm using a Shruthi box for the drone that repeats three notes.
I also play the carnatic violin here. This instrument is played by resting the scroll between the heel and ankle.
