American Boy - Estelle ft. Kanye West - Vocal Cover

Produced by Will.I.Am and performed by Estelle and Kanye West, this throwback melody is a song that we can jam to any day.

I decided to release my cover without any backing track or ukulele because why not.

I added some carnatic techniques into this cover too. Let me know if you notice them.

Most of the lyrics that I sang:

This a number one champion sound
Yeah, Estelle, we 'bout to get down
Who the hottest in the world right now?
Just touched down in London town

Bet they give me a pound
Tell them put the money in my hand right now
Tell the promoter we need more seats
We just sold out all the floor seats

Take me on a trip, I'd like to go some day
Take me to New York, I'd love to see LA
I really want to come kick it with you
You'll be my American boy

He said, "Hey, sister, it's really, really nice to meet ya"
I just met this 5-foot-7 guy who's just my type
Like the way he's speakin', his confidence is peakin'
Don't like his baggy jeans but I'd like what he's thinking
And, no, I ain't been to MIA
I heard that Cali never rains and New York's all the way
First let's see the West End, I'll show you to my bredrin
I'm likin' this American boy, American boy

Take me on a trip, I'd like to go some day
Take me to New York, I'd love to see LA
I really want to come kick it with you
You'll be my American boy, American boy

La, la la, la la, eya
La, la la, la la, eya
La, la la, la la, eya
Will you be my American boy? American boy

[Verse 2: Estelle]
Can we get away this weekend? Take me to Broadway
Let's go shopping, baby, then we'll go to a café
Let's go on the subway, take me to your hood
I never been to Brooklyn and I'd like to see what's good
Dressed in all your fancy clothes
Sneakers lookin' fresh to death, I'm lovin' those Shell Toes
Walkin' that walk, talk that slick talk
I'm likin' this American boy, American boy

[Chorus 1: Estelle]
Take me on a trip, I'd like to go some day
Take me to New York, I'd love to see LA
I really want to come kick it with you
You'll be my American boy

Home - Sneak Peak Original song by World Music Abi

Home is where I'd like to be

Home is the safest place for me

Let myself be free

I'm alone here but not lonely

Is home a familiarity

To me, friends are family,

Is it a place to live in this big city

Or in the roots of my history.

The meaning of the song is derived from my feeling of "being at home" or comfort in certain places or around certain people more than others. It is about how I can express myself in my comfort zone while alone. "I'm alone here but not lonely" comes from that feeling of how it is okay to focus on things on your own.

Familiar things like people from my past, or songs from my teens or food from my childhood make me feel at home. Most of the time when we say home, we talk about the place we live in. "The roots of my history" is a reference to how some say "Go back home" in a demeaning way to us. It also is a history to our ancestral identity and culture that may be lost as time goes on and the world becomes more westernised.

I was inspired by Nalinakanthi Ragam when composing this song but actually ended up composing it in a mixture of Hamsathwani and Kedaram.

The idea that kickstarted this song came while I suggested an idea to the BAM & beyond team about having home as a theme for people to make their own content about.

Ponnondru Kanden பொன் ஒன்று கண்டேன் Violin Cover

Bringing you this Tamil song from 1962...

‘Ponnondru Kanden’ from Padithal Mattum Podhuma (composers M.S. Viswanathan, T.K. Ramamurthy) is a fine piece in Brindavani, with a touch of the dhaivata at the charanam. The phrase ‘Nee Indri Naan Illai...’ (NSSRRSSNNPPMMRRS) traverses the entire scale of the raga.

-  Charulatha Mani, The Hindu

Here's the original :

Here's another cover by Hariharan and Shankar Mahadevan:

Vannam Konda Vennilave - வண்ணம் கொண்ட வெண்ணிலவே - Violin

Here's my violin cover of Vannam konda vennilave.

SPB has composed the music, sung and acted in this film. I was surprised to find out that it released in 1991.

I used my new studio equipment and software to record and edit the sound here.

I may or not upload notation depending on demand so let me know if you do want the carnatic notation.

This song is set to the Hindustani raga Piloo.

This song is a great one to get stuck in your head especially if you've heard it being sung.

The lyrics of the song are from the point of view of someone who describes their other half as the moon and they are missing them.

Vannam konda venn nilave = White moon who has colours

Vaanam viddu vaarayo = will you come down from the sky

Vinnile Eeramillai = The atmosphere is not wet enough

Unnai thoda Eni Illai = there's no ladder to touch you

Pakkathil Neeyum Illai = You're not next to me

Paarvaiyil Eeram illai = figuratively saying that his eyes are dry

Sonthatil paashaiyillai = no languages are needed for our relationship

Swasikka Aasai Illai = I've got no desire to breathe

Kanduvanthu solvatharku kaatrukku neram illai = The wind doesn't have time to deliver this message

Neelathai pirithu vittaal vaanathil ethum illai = If you take out the blue of the sky there is nothing left

Thalli thalli nee irunthal solli kolla vaazhkai illai = If you keep staying away, there isn't even a life speaking about
