Isai kettaal puvi asaindhaadum - இசை கேட்டால் புவி அசைந்தாடும் - Acapella World Music Abi

This video features a song that describes the beauty of music and how it can affect the world.

This song is from the 1972 film, Thavapudhalavan. This was originally sung by T. M. Soundararajan. Lyrics were written by Kannadasan. Music was directed by M. S. Vishwanathan.

It is based in Kalyani Raga which brings joy to people. This is known as the Lydian Mode.

As this is an Acapella cover, I have used multiple tracks to create the melody, drone and the rhythm.

1/2 tracks for the main melody
1/2 tracks for the harmonies
2 tracks for the drone Sa and Pa
0/1 track for the clapping which I did instead of konnakol or a percussion instrument.
1 track for the thakkathina thom repeating theme.

Leave a comment on social media or youtube to let me know of your thoughts!

The lyrics are below:

இசை கேட்டால் புவி அசைந்தாடும்
அது இறைவன் அருளாகும்

Isai kettaal puvi asaindhaadum
Adhu iraivan arulaagum

The world moves with the music that you hear
That is the blessing of god.

Ezhaam kadalum vaanum nilavum
Ennudan vilaiyaadum

The seven seas, sky and moon
Will come and play with me

Isai Ennidam Uruvagum

Music will begin with me

En paadal sei ketkkum virundhaagalaam

My song could be a feast for a child to listen

En paadal noi theerkkum marundhaagalaam

My song could cure illnesses

En maenmai iraivaa un arulaadhalaal

Oh great Lord by your blessing

Eriyaadha dheepathil oli vendinen

I prayed for light from the unlit lamp

Vidhiyodu vilaiyaadum raagangalae

The ragas/scales that play with fate

Vilakkaettri uyir kaakka vaarungalae

Light the lamp and protect our lives

Kanalaendhi vaarungal dheepangalae

Lamps light your flame

Karaindhodum noi ennum paavangalae

The illnesses and sins will melt away

Thathum kadalalai odi odi varum

The waves will come with rhythm

Endhan isaiyudan aadi aadi varum, Dheepangalae

The fire will come dancing to my music

Endhan isaiyudan paadal ketta pinnum

Even after hearing my song

Innum varavillai seidha paavamenna Dheepangalae

Why do the lamps not light up

Dheepangalae… dheepangalae…
Dheepangalae… dheepangalae…

I missed these lines in my recording:

கண்ணில் கனல் வரப் பாட வேண்டுமெனில்

Kannil kanal vara paada vendumenil

Even to bring fire to one’s eyes

Minnum oliyudan nooru paadal varum

A hundred songs of bright light can be sung

Vellai Pookal Ulagam Engum -

Happy World Violin Day!

I wanted to tell you a bit about the Carnatic violin through this video and keep following if you'd like to find out more!

This method of playing the violin is known as the Carnatic style.

Carnatic music is widely heard in South India and Sri Lanka as well as in locations where the diaspora live.

It has influenced many musical systems and styles.

This song by AR Rahman is featured in a film called Kannathil Muthammital.

The lyrics of the song say "May white flowers bloom around the world. May the Earth wake up to  peace."

I’m covering it in the carnatic style with glides which are called gamakam or asaivu.

This rendition has shades of Kalyani and Shankarabaranam. Lydian Mode and Major scale respectively.
