Happy World Violin Day!
I wanted to tell you a bit about the Carnatic violin through this video and keep following if you'd like to find out more!
This method of playing the violin is known as the Carnatic style.
Carnatic music is widely heard in South India and Sri Lanka as well as in locations where the diaspora live.
It has influenced many musical systems and styles.
This song by AR Rahman is featured in a film called Kannathil Muthammital.
The lyrics of the song say "May white flowers bloom around the world. May the Earth wake up to peace."
I’m covering it in the carnatic style with glides which are called gamakam or asaivu.
This rendition has shades of Kalyani and Shankarabaranam. Lydian Mode and Major scale respectively.
