Ododi Vanthen Kanna - Ambujam Krishna - Dharmavathi

 I absolutely love Dharmavathi. It a wonderful raga perfect for this composition by Ambujam Krishna. You may have heard Kuzhaloothi manamellaam which was also composed by her.

What I love about some carnatic music especially the pieces composed in Tamil is that I'm able to understand the beautiful poetry. I've made an effort to translate this across so you can get an essence. 

This song basically professes love for a deity in the form of Kannan and the desperation of love is

கோடானு கோடி தவம் செய்து உனைக்கான

கோவிந்தா என்றழைத்து பிரிண்டாவனத்திநில்

The Gopis gather to see the beauty of Kannan playing the flute

Kuzhaloothum ezhil kaanave koodum gopiyargal mukham naanave 

குழலூதும் எழில் காணவே கூடும் கோபியர்கள் முகம் நானவே 

As I look your way, my lips turn and wist ever so slightly

kaathal vizhiyunran mukham naadave muruval idazhoram suzhittonave 

காதல் விழியுன்றன் முகம் நாடவே முறுவல் இதழோரம் சுழித்தோனவே 

As Jaganathan sings and Nankai recites jati (syllables like konnakol), pitch and tempo are constant throughout the times 

jagannaathan isai paada nangai jati poda kaala kaalamellaam shrutiyum layamumena

ஜகந்நாதன் இசை பாட நங்கை ஜதி போட கால காலமெல்லாம் ஸ்ருதியும் லயமுமென

If the scriptures are united in you, you will be able to carry the love with your golden feet
